Medical Alert System
Students: HO Wai Kit, LI Kin Fai

The number of sensors for medical measurement is increasing due to the increasing demand of medical diagnose and treatments. Therefore it is more difficult for medical personnel to monitor all sensors. In order to improve the efficiency, we have designed a new system called Medical Alert System. When the sensor reading becomes abnormal, medical personnel can be alerted by handheld devices such as Pocket PC, mobile phone.

Mobile TV for us (MTV4S)
(Previously named Mobile Extension for MythTV)

Students: SUEN Ho Yan, LAM Chi Ho

"Mobile extensions on MythTV" extends the TV functions of MythTV to mobile devices. It allows users to watch both live and recorded TV, and manage the recording schedules on their mobile devices, such as cellular phones and PDAs. In addition, time shifting and full playback control are supported for convenient playback.

IPv6 Performance Testbed
Students: LAW Yuk Nam, Gordon LAI

Organizations of all types, especially in international and governmental markets, there are increasing pressure to migrate from the well known and universal IPv4 standard towards the newer IPv6 standard. IPv6, people may have heard of that, however, what it really is and its performance on the real internet is still a mystery, especially from the perspective of end users. In order to excel form the theoretical analysis, we setup a testbed of seven computers, installed with different operation systems, to test on the performance of IPv6.

Wireless Sensor Network for Patient IV Monitoring

As the demand grows in social healthcare services, the interest in the applications of wireless information technology is also increasing for reducing the cost and improving the medical services quality to patients. In this technical report, we describe the design and implementation of a wireless sensor network for monitoring the intravenous (IV) fluid infusion system attached to a patient. The key feature of our system is that the information (IV condition and location) is transferred continuously to a server while the patient is in motion. This experimental testbed in MobiTeC has been useful for conducting research in wireless sensor networks, including service differentiation, multi-hop routing, and object tracking.

Network Tracer - Tools Designed for Monitoring the Network I/O of Skype

Initially, this set of tools is designed for monitoring the network I/O of a common VoIP application - Skype. In later development, it is found that this useful tool box offers a generic usage in Windows environment. Users can easily find out all of the TCP and UDP packets of a specific application. Skype Tools contains several tools which can help us to extract all the network traffic only related to Skype, so that we can analysis the mechanism of Skype easily.
